MBOCINEMAS

Set in 1920, during the Belanda colonial period in Indonesia, the story follows a young doctor, Giandra, a graduate of STOVIA University, who comes across a newspaper article about a girl in Karuhun Village who has been confined. At that time, confinement was seen as one of the methods to treat mental illness. The treatment, however, was carried out through mystical practices by a shaman, which went against Giandra’s principles as a modern doctor. The girl, named Layla, had her story written by Rikke, a journalist of mixed Belanda and local descent. When Giandra arrives in Karuhun Village, he is greeted by Rikke, who is also curious about his reason for visiting the village located at the foot of the mountain.
